Virtual Research Day: Frontiers in Computational Science and Engineering Research and Software

April 12, 2021

initiative for Computational Science and Engineering (iCSE)
Columbia University

Date and Time: May 12th 1PM-5PM ET

Background: 67 faculty from nine departments of the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science at Columbia University established the initiative of the Computational Science and Engineering (iCSE). The following 17 focus areas have been identified:

  • Hybrid Physics-Data Driven Computational Science and Engineering
  • Computational Mathematics and Numerical Analysis
  • Parallel Computation and Petascale/Exascale Computing
  • Uncertainty Quantification and Stochastic Modeling
  • Reduced Order Modeling
  • Inference, Verification and Validation of Models
  • Multiphysics and Multiscale Modeling
  • Computational Climate
  • Computational Biomechanics and Biology
  • Computational Neuroscience
  • Computational Imaging
  • Computational Health
  • Computational Mechanics and Materials
  • Computational Chemistry
  • Graphics, Animation and Visualization
  • Optimization
  • Computational Design, Decision-Making, and Finance

Meeting Goals: iCSE will administer an iCSE Affiliates Program that will actively engage industry and government partners across a broad spectrum of CSE areas. Our goal is a two-way sharing of information and resources for mutual development. The basic benefits to the iCSE partners are:

  • Access to an open-source software for internal use and a fee-based opportunity to commercialize technologies.
  • Recruiting for summer jobs, internships, and full-time positions.
  • Access to faculty and research results.
  • Access to research reports which have not been yet published in the open literature.

Further details and various membership levels will be discussed during the virtual meeting.

Meeting Agenda:

  1. Opening remarks, iCSE structure and goals – Jacob Fish
  2. iCSE faculty presentations
  3. Q&A
